Possible Songs for Our Music Video - UPDATED

Key:
Green: The Visitors - Text Me

The changing dynamics of the song could make it engaging to an audience who enjoy alternative rock, as it introduces a range of instruments to change the pace and to explore the change of emotions that the song is inspired by. However, the song lacks a hook, which could make it unappealing to a mainstream audience as it makes the song less memorable and harder to identify.
It has a very clear introduction but once the pace increases as the song builds to its climax and more instruments are included, the song begins to lack a conventional structure, which could make editing a music video difficult. However, it does include a coda that leads into the ending, this could make for an interesting edit, because the video could gradually return to what it was like at the beginning, reflecting the structure of the song.
The song has a clear beat throughout, which would make editing easier as we would be able to match the beat of the song, that is created by guitars and drums.
The lyrics are clear as well as being appropriate for a school project, exploring the pain and anger of a failed relationship. We could create a music video exploring the couples journey, focusing on the flaws of their relationship and why they broke apart, featuring a range of close ups to explore and emphasis their emotions.

Purple: Finn Doherty - Process

The song includes a repeated riff that leads into the different sections of the song, this could make it recognisable and more appealing to a mainstream audience. It also features a chorus, this could work with the riff to catch the audience's attention. It has an outro that changes the dynamics of the song, the change of pace could be reflected in the edit. The edit of our music video could also match the rhythm created by the drums.
Much like 'Text Me', the lyrics are appropriate and explore a range of emotions, creating a variety of options we could take the video in. The idea of unrequited love and confused emotions could be explored through a range of shots that only show one person in the relationship, emphasising how one sided it is. We could also include shots of Finn singing to reinforce the emotions explored within the song, this would conform to Goodwin's theory of following genre conventions as alternative music videos typically feature the artist.

Blue: The Montagues and Capulets - Take It or Leave It

The song has a clear hook that would keep the audience engaged as they listen to the song. The chorus would also have the same effect as it would catch the audience's attention. Similarly to 'Process', there is a clear beat created by the guitars that are played throughout the song. This would help us in editing, as we would be able to match the rhythm of the edit to the beat of the song. However, the song is over four minutes long which means we would have to produce a large amount of footage which would then have to be edited, this would be very difficult in the time frames we have.
The song does build to a climax but its much more subtle than the other songs we could use, this would make it harder to create an engaging video as the pace would largely remain the same, meaning the video would lack variety.
The lyrics offer an interesting view of love and life, but they haven't inspired us. This would make developing a four minute video difficult, however the lyrics seem to connote a journey so as part of our video we could follow the couple as they travel around different places together.

Orange: Finn Doherty - Choose
The fast pace of the song combined with the evocative nature of the lyrics could engage an audience and make them eager to hear what other views he has to express. The song has a clear introduction that leads into the rest of the song that features a chorus. This could help to widen the audience from alternative fans to a mainstream audience as it makes the song more memorable.
The song gradually builds and has a clear rhythm that could be mimicked in the edit of our music video. The lyrics explore the singer's views of religion and the world we currently live in. This could be reflected in the edit through shots of what the world has become compared to what it used to be, for example we could juxtapose an elderly person with a young adult and explore the different ways they view the world.

In conclusion, as a group, we decided to make a video for the song 'Process' due to the fact that it was unanimously our favourite and we all have a range of ideas for it that could combine to make an engaging video. It also has attributes, such as having a clear beat that we could match with the edit and being just over three minutes long, that make it more favourable than other songs we debated using.
